What Is a Worker Tracking System?
A worker tracking system is a digital solution designed to monitor employee presence, movement, and activity within a defined facility. In manufacturing, the system may be used to track production workers, maintenance teams, quality-control staff, contractors, visitors, and warehouse personnel.
Employees can wear small beacons attached to ID badges, hard hats, wristbands, watches, or clothing. Gateways installed around the facility detect signals from these beacons as workers enter or leave specific reading zones. The signals are recorded at regular intervals and transmitted to software, where managers can view real-time or historical information.
Unlike a traditional attendance system, which only records when an employee enters or leaves the premises, a worker tracking system can provide information about activity throughout the workday.

How the System Works
A typical worker tracking system includes three important components: wearable beacons, gateway receivers, and management software.
The beacon is a compact wireless device assigned to an employee. It transmits an identifying signal at regular intervals. Because the device is small and lightweight, it can be attached to a hard hat, clipped to clothing, worn as a wristband, or incorporated into an ID badge.
Gateways are installed at strategic locations throughout the manufacturing facility.
These may include production lines, assembly website areas, packaging sections, warehouses, maintenance rooms, entrances, and restricted zones. When an employee wearing a beacon enters or exits a gateway’s reading area, the gateway detects the signal and sends the information to the tracking platform.
